Regarding the Commentary's statement: 'Next, among the three that clarify activity...' and so forth: the text of the Commentary has ten points. 1. This phrase is a general heading. 2. From 'First, greed and hostility...' onward, it individually brings out the first phrase of the sūtra among the three, up to 'accumulating all karmas, increasing day and night.' 3. From 'Due to the previous...' onward, it traces back to the previous seeking and generally explains the three phrases. 4. From 'This phrase generally clarifies...' onward, it individually brings up the first phrase. 5. From 'Therefore the Sixth Ground...' onward, it cites an analogy to explain the arising of karma from defilements; however, that text only traces back to avidyā, whereas this text extends to greed and so forth, so there is a distinction between general and specific. 6. 'It is also avidyā concomitant with activity' explains greed and so forth once more. The previous explanation cited avidyā that generates karma as preceding activity; here, all defilements present when karma is being generated are called avidyā, because they obscure karma and one does not know its faults. 7. From 'All karmas are not singular...' onward, it explains the remaining sūtra text. 8. From 'However, accumulating karma...' onward, it cites the Śāstra for explanation, which has three parts: first, tracing the sūtra text to generate the Śāstra's intent. That is, the sūtra says 'the three poisons give rise to karma,' while the Śāstra says 'when experiencing various feelings,' because the poisons arise based on feeling. Next, from 'Therefore the Śāstra...' onward, it directly cites the text of the Śāstra. Later, from 'Meaning pleasant feeling...' onward, the Commentary explains the Śāstra's intent. 9. From 'However, delusion...' onward, it distinguishes the identity and difference of dharmas. 10. From 'The next two phrases...' onward, it explains the other two phrases.
