Second is the purity of the self-nature. In the text of the commentary there are four sections: first, a general outline; second, subsuming the stages; third, sorting out distinctions; fourth, explaining the text. Here is the first: "Moral discipline" means law; "deportment" means correct manner. When one abandons all faults and evil and does not violate the legal prohibitions, the treatise calls it the purity of renunciation. The treatise has two names: the first states that the first is the precept of renunciation, namely, after explaining the initial section, it concludes, "It is also called the purity of correct reception. Reception is the teaching for receiving the precepts; renunciation is the practicing characteristic in accord with the precepts. The ten, such as not killing, accord with benefiting and are called wholesome. When the commitment rests upon oneself, it is called gathering; abandoning all faults and evil is called the precept of gathering wholesome dharmas. Universally helping sentient beings is called benefiting sentient beings; benefiting while abandoning faults is called the precept of benefiting sentient beings."
