60.15

疏「二具足悲愍是菩薩用」者，論云「見諸眾生習行苦因及受苦時，起悲愍心。」意云：見行苦因：愍其當苦；見已受苦果，悲欲拔之。

Regarding the commentary’s [statement], “Second, being endowed with compassion is the function of the bodhisattva,” the treatise states: “Seeing sentient beings practicing the causes of suffering and experiencing suffering, [the bodhisattva] gives rise to a mind of compassion.” The meaning is: seeing them practice the causes of suffering, he pities their future suffering; seeing them already experiencing the fruit of suffering, with sorrow he wishes to eradicate it.
