60.30

疏「依增上悲念眾生故」者，正釋集字。依前攝善起悲攝生，名戒增上；今依上悲欲拔眾生，悲心能起利眾生事，故名為集。

Regarding the Commentary's phrase: "Because of being mindful of sentient beings by relying on predominant compassion": this directly explains the character 'accumulation' (ji). Relying on the preceding embracing of wholesome dharmas to give rise to compassion and embrace sentient beings is called 'predominance of precepts'; here, relying on superior compassion to desire to rescue sentient beings, the compassionate mind is able to initiate acts that benefit sentient beings; hence it is called 'accumulation.'
