Regarding the Commentary's statement "the second, the arising of difficulties, has four": the first is view, the next two are craving, and the last is conceit. Regarding "clinging due to the view of self-existence": this is also as the Kośa states: "By two, one does not transcend desire; by three, one returns down below again." Explanation: these are the five fetters that bind to the lower realms. Those by which "by two, one does not transcend desire" are sensual desire and ill will. Those by which "by three, one returns down below again" are the view of self-existence, adherence to rules and rituals, and doubt. The sūtra mentions only the view of self-existence, which is why the preceding line of the Commentary says: "The word 'grasping' also subsumes adherence to rules, which are delusions that likewise cause return to the desire realm." It simply omits doubt. Thus, the two of greed and ill will are like jailers, while the three of the view of self-existence and the rest are like patrol guards.
