疏「次作是思惟」，即第四相。言「即何故修」者，是修所以，良以不修則不證故。言「即勝解作意」者，下釋正是修行，謂勝解於境印持為性，不可引轉為業，是故修行非此不成。

Regarding the commentary's statement, "Next, reflecting thus": this is the fourth characteristic. The statement "namely, for what reason does one cultivate?" is the reason for cultivation, for truly, if one does not cultivate, one does not realize. The statement "namely, the mental application of resolute faith (adhimokṣa-manaskāra)" is explained below as proper cultivation; that is, resolute faith has confirming and holding to an object as its nature, and its function is to be unshakeable, so cultivation cannot be accomplished without this.
