64.58

疏「次正釋文」下，第三釋文。於中有三：一總示釋義、二指文分齊、三依論科釋。今初。云「並以三觀釋之更無別理」者，因古德總有四重，一直釋經文、後方依論三觀重釋，不知直釋名為何觀？既別無觀，如何異論設有別觀？又不出名，亦令論主釋未盡理，故云但以三觀釋之更無別理。

Under the commentary's phrase "Next, properly explaining the text," this is the third [part], explaining the text. Within this there are three [subdivisions]: first, a general indication of the meaning of the explanation; second, pointing out the delimitations of the text; third, sectioning and explaining according to the treatise. Now, as for the first: regarding the phrase "all are explained by the three contemplations, with no other principle," this is because ancient worthies had four levels in total: first directly explaining the sūtra text, and only afterwards re-explaining according to the treatise's three contemplations. They did not know what kind of contemplation that direct explanation was named. Since there is no distinct contemplation, how could there be a distinct contemplation posited differing from the treatise? Furthermore, by not providing its name, they also made the treatise master's explanation fail to exhaust the principle; hence it says that they are merely explained by the three contemplations, with no other principle.
