Regarding the Commentary's line beginning with "The term Far-Reaching (Dūraṅgamā)": explaining the name comprises three parts, namely positing, explaining, and concluding. Second, the passage beginning with "The Cheng weishi [lun]" explains the name by presenting five interpretations in total; its purport accords with the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi because it encompasses them. As for the statement "This has three meanings": first, it is called "Far-Reaching" because one skillfully cultivates signlessness and reaches the limit of signlessness; second, it is called "Far-Reaching" because purposive effort reaches its culmination; third, it is called "Far-Reaching" because it surpasses what came before. As for the explanation of "skillful cultivation," both are as stated previously. Second, the quotation of the Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra refers to its fourth fascicle, which also concerns "progressing far." The latter "far" refers to the two meanings above being earlier and later. Third, the quotation from the Mahāyānasaṃgraha with its accompanying explanation refers to its seventh fascicle. Fourth, the quotation from the Suvarṇaprabhāsa corresponds to its third [fascicle]. Fifth, the quotation from the Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra corresponds to its thirteenth [fascicle], where a verse states: "Departing from the paths and bordering the single path, / Going far away is called 'Far-Reaching'." The treatise's commentary states: "Because on the seventh ground the bodhisattva approaches the path of the One Vehicle, it is called 'going far away'. Question: Who goes far away? Answer: Purposive effort and upāya reach culmination; this can go far, hence it is called 'Far-Reaching'."
