疏「以昧況審」者，睡眠皆以昧略為性。略揀寤時，昧揀定中。定中雖略而不昧，故今為對審，但舉昧耳。

Regarding the Commentary's 'using dimness to analogize examination': sleep has dimness and brevity as its nature. 'Brevity' excludes the waking state; 'dimness' excludes meditative absorption. Although there is brevity in meditative absorption, there is no dimness; hence, to contrast with careful examination, it merely adduces dimness.
