71.45

第九三聚稠林。「論通為五」者，五中，一約生死涅槃之果以分、次二偏就生死之因、後二偏就涅槃之因。初中，先舉論、後「無即邪定」下疏釋。於中三：初正釋三聚；次「此就」下揀定，約位，非約本性；後「又約一期」下，揀法相宗無性之義。

Ninth: the dense forest of the three categories [of beings]. Regarding 'The treatise takes it generally as five': among the five, the first distinguishes them in terms of the results of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa; the next two pertain particularly to the causes of saṃsāra; the last two pertain particularly to the causes of nirvāṇa. In the first, it first cites the treatise, and then from 'If non-existent, it is the definitively wrong' onward is the Commentary's explanation. Within this there are three parts: first, correctly explaining the three categories; next, from 'This is based on' onward distinguishes and determines that it is in terms of stages and not in terms of the fundamental nature; finally, from 'Furthermore, in terms of a single life-span' onward distinguishes the Dharma-characteristic school's doctrine of having no [Buddha-]nature.
