Regarding the Commentary's statement, "Here it is also a matter of the section on the great exhaustion": the five greatnesses were already pointed out in the preceding text, and are now concluded again; thus it says "it is also." That is, the initial overall indication of the three karmas is the sovereignty of supernormal powers. The remainder completes the five greatnesses: 1. Contemplating the three periods of time is the first, the greatness of cognition. 2. The realm of samādhi is the third, the greatness of samādhi. 3. The realm of wisdom is the fourth, the greatness of dhāraṇī. 4. From "sporting in all..." downward is the second, the greatness of liberation. 5. From "transformations..." downward is the fifth, the greatness of supernormal powers. Regarding the Commentary's statement, "In the question, it brings up the bodhisattva to doubt the Buddha": this means that, trusting in the bodhisattva's supernormal powers, one considers that the Buddha could not surpass them. Earlier, bringing up the Buddha to doubt the bodhisattva meant that one considered the Buddha to attain it, yet doubted that the bodhisattva could attain it; thus the questions have the same meaning but differing perspectives. Regarding the Commentary's statement, "Second, up to expounding the Dharma to resolve doubt," and so forth: within the text there are three: 1. Directly revealing the resolution of doubt; 2. From "However, the lower text..." downward, reconciling and explaining the sūtra text; 3. From "If according to..." downward, explaining in reliance on the sūtra, which is understandable.
