78.28

疏「令其真念十方諸佛」者，若不了唯心，見從外來，取色分齊，豈知即心即佛？若知心佛眾生三無差別，為真念佛。善知識云：「念佛即是念心，念心即是念佛。」佛無形相，心無生滅，心境一致，故云真念。

Regarding the Commentary's stating, "Causing them to truly be mindful of the buddhas of the ten directions": if one does not comprehend mind-only, sees [the Buddha] as coming from outside, and grasps at the limits of form, how could one know that mind itself is the Buddha? If one knows that mind, buddha, and sentient beings—these three—have no distinction, this is true mindfulness of the Buddha. A good spiritual friend said: "Mindfulness of the Buddha is mindfulness of the mind; mindfulness of the mind is mindfulness of the Buddha." The Buddha has no form, and the mind has no arising and ceasing; mind and object are unified, and therefore it is called true mindfulness.
