79.48

疏「深固幽遠」者，即《法華經．法師品》文。文云「此法華經藏深固幽遠，無人能到。今佛教化成就菩薩，而為開示。」釋曰：幽遠深固名為祕密。疏「初心同稟」下，解妨。解妨云：《法華經》除諸菩薩眾信力堅固者。又三根聲聞初發大心，皆稟法華如來知見，何要此位方為說耶？故為此通。約究竟故，為等覺說，實則此法通被始末。

Regarding the Commentary's statement "deep, firm, and profound": this is the text of the "Dharma Teacher" chapter of the Lotus Sūtra. The text says: "This treasury of the Lotus Sūtra is deep, firm, and profound, and no one can reach it. Now the Buddha, teaching and transforming to bring bodhisattvas to completion, opens and reveals it for them." Exegesis: being profound, deep, and firm is called "secret." Regarding the Commentary's statement "Those of initial aspiration receive it alike" and so forth: this resolves an objection. Resolving the objection, it says: The Lotus Sūtra excludes those among the bodhisattva assemblies whose power of faith is firm; furthermore, the śrāvakas of the three faculties, upon first generating the great mind, all receive the Tathāgata's vision and knowledge of the Lotus. Why is it only preached for this stage? Therefore, this explanation is made: in terms of the ultimate, it is preached for equal awakening; in reality, this Dharma universally reaches from beginning to end.
