8.34

疏「不同前漸」下，上約當法立名，此下對他受稱。不同二三之漸教，不同第五之圓教，故立此名。則圓頓義異，不同天台圓即是頓。

Regarding the commentary's "unlike the preceding gradual" onward: above, the name was established with respect to the teaching itself; from here onward, the designation is received in contrast to others. Because it is unlike the gradual teachings of the second and third, and unlike the complete teaching of the fifth, this name is established. Thus the meanings of "complete" and "sudden" differ, unlike Tiantai, where the complete is itself the sudden.
