In the commentary, from "Now, with what is nameless, forcedly giving a name..." downward is the third part, opening sections for individual explanation. This sentence generally clarifies the intention behind opening the sections. Chapter twenty-one of the Nirvāṇa Sūtra says: "The *tailapāyikā* is called an oil-eating insect; it has no name, but one forcedly establishes a name. Good son! Great nirvāṇa is also like this: it has no name, but one forcedly establishes a name." In "Determining the Essence," it says: "Having residue and without residue are merely external appellations for nirvāṇa, provisional names in response to beings. But those who cling to appellations become trapped in names, and those who set their sights on physical vessels are infatuated with forms. Names reach their limit in titles; forms are exhausted by squares and circles. Where squares and circles fail to depict, and where titles fail to convey, how could one name what is nameless, or give form to what is formless?" Thus, "nameless" is also provisional.
