Regarding the commentary's statement, "If so, then this completely possesses the universal and the distinct," the above directly explained the universal and the distinct; here downward it resolves a difficulty. Later, from "It does not mean clinging to the universal" downward, it explains. The explanation has two meanings: First, the distinct does not lose the universal; therefore he is named "Samantabhadra" (Universal Worthy) and not "Distinct Worthy." Second, from "Furthermore, the universal must possess the distinct" downward, it clarifies that the distinct does not necessarily possess the universal, but the universal can subsume the distinct; therefore he is named Samantabhadra. From "Like a single thread" downward, it illustrates the distinct without the universal. Because it is a thread outside of the brocade, it is not necessarily universal; thus where there is a thread there is not necessarily brocade, but where there is brocade there must be its threads. This concurrently establishes the previous meaning that the distinct does not lose the universal, as it is the distinct within the universal.
