83.39

疏「八明涅槃是堅即自在我」者，《涅槃》二十七云「我者謂大涅槃。」上第二云「我者即是如來。」自約別義，至下當釋。今明涅槃，故說涅槃為我義耳。言亦兼常義者，以有堅牢言故。然常已配法身，故此屬我。

Regarding the commentary's remark that "Eighth, clarifying that nirvāṇa is solid, which is the autonomous self": the twenty-seventh fascicle of the *Nirvāṇa-sūtra* states, "Self refers to great nirvāṇa." The second fascicle above states, "Self refers to the Tathāgata." These are based on distinct meanings and will be explained below. Here it clarifies nirvāṇa, so it speaks of nirvāṇa as the meaning of "self". The statement that it also includes the meaning of "permanence" is because of the words "solid and firm". However, since "permanence" has already been assigned to the dharmakāya, this belongs to "self".
