85.25

疏「則攝眾魔為侍」者，即《淨名．問疾品》「文殊問言：『此室何以空無侍者？』廣答空竟，云：『又仁所問何無侍者，一切眾魔及諸外道皆吾侍也。所以者何？眾魔者樂生死，菩薩於生死而不捨。外道者樂諸見，菩薩於諸見而不動。』」釋曰：此中但用攝魔耳。言「不溺實際之海」者，對於小乘，已見七地。疏「大聖此中」下，總顯文意。

Regarding the Commentary's phrase 'then gathering all Māras to be attendants', this comes from the 'Inquiring About Sickness Chapter' of the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa: 'Mañjuśrī asked: "Why is this room empty, without attendants?" After answering extensively about emptiness, [Vimalakīrti] said: "Furthermore, as for your question about why there are no attendants, all Māras and all non-Buddhists are my attendants. Why is this? Māras delight in saṃsāra, and the bodhisattva does not abandon saṃsāra; non-Buddhists delight in various views, and the bodhisattva does not waver amidst various views."' Explanation: Here it merely adopts the gathering of Māras. As for 'not drowning in the ocean of bhūtakoṭi', this is contrasted with the Hīnayāna, having already appeared in the seventh bhūmi. From the Commentary's 'The Great Sage in this...' onward, it reveals the overall meaning of the text.
