Regarding the commentary's phrase below, "Now, first, 'boundless wisdom'...": their deferral to superior qualities has briefly two senses: first, it refers generally to all bodhisattva practices, as in the present general section where it merely says the bodhisattva's boundless wisdom, and so forth; second, with respect to this single gate, [the friend] only knows a small fraction, as below where he specifically explains twenty-one gates, saying, "I have only attained one," and so forth. The spiritual friends below mostly follow the latter sense. The commentary's explanation of this general section contains both senses: first, that it refers to the various gates below, which is the sense of specifically knowing a small fraction regarding a single gate; second, that it extends to what is not spoken, which bears the sense of generally encompassing all virtues.
