疏「二、約歷位無位」等者，始終二教皆悉歷位，頓教不歷，故合始終以為漸教。「餘皆如名」者，一小乘教、二漸教、三頓教、四圓教，則漸是新加，餘三如本名也。

Regarding the commentary's "Second, in terms of passing through stages and having no stages," and so forth: the initial and final teachings both pass through stages, while the sudden teaching does not pass through stages; hence the initial and final are combined to form the gradual teaching. As for "the rest are all according to their names": first is the Hīnayāna teaching, second is the gradual teaching, third is the sudden teaching, and fourth is the perfect teaching; thus "gradual" is newly added, and the remaining three are according to their original names.
