9.35

疏「然此三類依於此世」下，揀濫。恐有執言：小乘始終定者，豈非定性聲聞？故云：謂非一人多世同聞一類，以容轉根器故。亦非通取不定性人，要約一世一類定者。

The commentary's words, "However, these three categories are based on this lifetime..." and so forth, distinguish against confusion. It was feared that someone might cling to the idea: "If the Hīnayāna is fixed from beginning to end, are they not determined śrāvakas?" Therefore it says: It does not mean that one person across many lifetimes uniformly hears only one category, because the capacities and faculties may change. Nor does it generally take those of undetermined nature; it must refer to those who are fixed within one lifetime as one category.
