In the third section, "The Delimitation of Doctrinal Principles," the text of the Commentary is divided into two parts: first, a general explanation of the overarching meaning; second, from "Now to reveal the distinct teaching..." onward, opening the chapters to explain them individually. In the former part, there are three sections: first, concluding the preceding and introducing the succeeding; second, generally revealing the profound and vast; third, concluding with the classification of what is subsumed. Now for the first, there are two sentences: the former sentence concludes the preceding, meaning that in the previous subsumption of teachings it was not separately clarified what subsumes it, because among the five teachings the fifth, the perfect teaching, points to this sūtra and its meaning should already be subsumed. Furthermore, when various masters established the teachings, all took the Avataṃsaka to be the perfect teaching, so we know it is subsumed under the perfect. The latter sentence, beginning with "Not yet known...", introduces the succeeding.
