Regarding the Commentary's 'However, there are two kinds of flowers' and below: second is the general evaluation. The flower that leads to fruit also serves as an analogy for the productive cause. The flower that adorns the body also serves as an analogy for the revealing cause. These two are without obstruction. When it says 'or occurring simultaneously with the fruit,' it is like the lotus flower and the like: the cause encompasses the ocean of fruit, and the fruit penetrates the source of the cause, because of perfectly interpenetrating practice. When it says 'or not occurring simultaneously,' it is like the apricot, crabapple, and other flowers: cause and fruit are distinguished, and the graded stages of practice are not commingled. These two being unimpeded is the flower of this [sūtra].
