As for the commentary's "Cognition divides into cause and fruit": the "ten cognitions" spoken of above are the ten cognitions that know the above ten oceans, though their names slightly differ in opening and combining. The sūtra says: "O sons of the Buddha! The inconceivable cognition of the Buddhas, the World-Honoured Ones, that knows the ocean of the formation, decay, and purification of all worlds (1); the inconceivable cognition that knows the ocean of karma of all sentient beings (2); the cognition that knows the ocean of the establishment of all dharmadhātus (3); the cognition that expounds the ocean of all boundless Buddhas (4); the cognition that enters the ocean of inclinations, understandings, and faculties of all sentient beings (5); the cognition that universally knows the ocean of the three times in a single thought (6); the cognition that reveals the ocean of immeasurable vows of all Tathāgatas (7); the cognition that manifests the ocean of spiritual transformations of all Buddhas (8); the cognition that turns the ocean of the wheel of Dharma (9); the cognition that establishes and expounds the ocean (10)." Above these all contain the words "inconceivable." Only the ocean of vows is the cause; the rest are all the fruit. If considered according to what is known, the first, third, fourth, eighth, ninth, and tenth are all the fruit; the remaining three are the cause. The three times apply to both cause and fruit.
