Regarding the commentary's '"Buddha" is the Lord accomplishment' and what follows: the text of the commentary has two parts: first, a brief explanation; later, beginning with 'the meaning is seen', pointing to the broader exposition. In the former: if one speaks of bodhi, it is merely called 'awakening'. If one says 'Buddha', here it is called 'one who is awakened'. However, awakening is threefold: First, self-awakening, which means simultaneously awakening to phenomena and principle, like waking from a dream, like a lotus blossoming; this excludes ordinary beings. Second, awakening others; this differentiates him from the two vehicles. Third, perfected awakening; this differentiates him from bodhisattvas. Therefore, it is said: 'one whose awakening of self and others is perfected.' If explained in terms of Chan contemplation, it is also said that being free from mind is called self-awakening, being free from form is called awakening others, and being free from both form and mind is perfected awakening, because based on the Awakening of Faith, the mind's essence being free from thought is called original awakening. As these are all present in the title, it is explained with this meaning.
