Regarding the Commentary's "Now, first, the ten lines on the ground of the mind" and so forth: this is the fifth part, explaining the main text. As for "Penetrating the Lotus Treasury": because the ground of the great lotus of the Lotus Treasury World-Ocean is formed of vajra. This relies on the present sūtra. If one relies on the second fascicle of the *Sūtra on the Samādhi-Ocean of the Contemplation of the Buddha*, it also differs from ordinary explanations, yet it does not exhaust the source. That text says: "At that time, the ground of the bodhimaṇḍa was transformed with vajra, spanning eighty li; its colour was pure white, impossible to see in full. When this sign appeared, the white curl of hair between the bodhisattva's eyebrows radiated light, upright, pure, and straight, shooting eastward, one zhang and five chi in length, exhibiting ten ridges." Comment: Since it has a count of li and speaks of being "transformed with [vajra]," it is not the ultimate exposition. Among the four causes, as for the Commentary's "Or appearing within trees": this is because of the fourth item above in the specific section, "the rows of precious trees." As for "Or appearing in various ornaments and in the ground": this is because it praises the supreme excellence of the ground. Second, regarding the adornment of the trees, as for the Commentary's "Tall and lofty" and so forth: tall and lofty explains "high"; standing out distinct explains "manifest"; round and wonderful explains "extraordinary"; thus standing uniquely above explains "distinctive." However, examining the *Records of the Western Regions*, it was one hundred feet tall, which is the pippala tree.
