Regarding the commentary's statement, "His transformations fill lands [countless as] dust motes, his functions encompass the three periods of time": this explains that the functions [of Mañjuśrī] are horizontally and vertically deep and vast. That is to say, the dust-mote kṣetras in the ten directions are all places where Mañjuśrī manifests transformations. Hence the Bodhisattva-garbhastha-sūtra says: "My body is like fine dust motes; now in other lands, with the thirty-two marks radiant, there is nowhere I do not manifest." The rest is as quoted in [the section on] "The Gathering of the Ocean-like Assembly." Furthermore, the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra says: "Abiding in the Śūraṅgamasamādhi, through the power of this samādhi, in the lands of the ten directions he may manifest initial birth, leaving home, parinirvāṇa, entering parinirvāṇa, and distributing relics to benefit sentient beings." Furthermore, it is extensively expounded in the Ratnakaraṇḍa-dhāraṇī-sūtra, which will be further clarified below in the chapter on "Abodes of the Bodhisattvas." In the present text itself, his uttering verses everywhere at the same time is precisely his horizontally encompassing the dharmadhātu.
