Tenth, harmoniously balancing beginning and end so that the head and tail are worthy of examination: The general style of composing a commentary is usually heavy at the beginning and light at the end. If one broadly opens the doctrinal approaches further, the textual parsing becomes sparse and brief, and when it comes to propagating the teaching, the holy intent is largely submerged. Now, because the beginning and end of the nine assemblies in the great sūtra are profound and mysterious, whenever a doctrine is encountered it is elucidated, without discriminating between beginning and end. However, once an explanation has been given at the outset, it is not repeatedly explained later. Therefore, the doctrinal headings and chapter divisions are laid out like stars, rendering it good in the beginning, middle, and end, with the beginning and end both worthy of examination. This briefly outlines these ten intentions in producing the commentary. Therefore, forgetting my physical body at the spiritual site, I respectfully narrate the profound scheme, my fundamental intention being solely that sentient beings may become equal to Samantabhadra and all the Buddhas.
