Regarding the commentary's statement, "The next two verses are the beneficial practice of all kinds": that [treatise] explains that it has either six or seven types, totaling thirteen. As for the six: first, properly gathering in those who should be gathered in; second, properly taming those who should be tamed; third, removing the resentment and distress of those who hate and turn their backs on the sacred teaching; fourth, causing those who abide neutrally to enter the sacred teaching; fifth, causing [beings] to mature within the three vehicles; sixth, causing those already matured to attain liberation. What are the seven kinds? They mean that the bodhisattvas settle one group of beings to be converted, guarding and nurturing their wholesome provisions, namely: first, renunciation based on the lower vehicle; second, renunciation based on the Great Vehicle; third, in seclusion; fourth, in one-pointedness of mind; fifth, in purifying all hindrances; sixth, properly settling them in the two vehicles; seventh, attaining settlement in unexcelled, correct, and complete bodhi.
