Eighth: Practice Difficult to Attain. On the commentary's "Each subsumes seeking above and transforming below" and so forth: this is because in the *Vijñaptimātratā [Siddhi]* there are two vows: first, the vow to seek bodhi; second, the vow to benefit and bring joy to others. The characteristics of the explanation are evident: the first is seeking above, and the next is transforming below. Therefore, the *Benye [jing]* has three vows: first, the vow for one's own practice, which is seeking above; second, the vow for supernormal powers, which is omitted in the present sūtra; third, the vow for external transformation. The latter two are both vows to transform below. Therefore, adducing seeking above and transforming below subsumes the two vows of the *Vijñaptimātratā [Siddhi]* and the three vows of the *Benye [jing]*, because the second of the *Benye [jing]* is subsumed under external transformation.
