Regarding the commentary's statement, 'Only when causes and conditions unite is one able to see,' this precisely accords with the *Vajracchedikā-sūtra*, which says: 'Just as a person with eyes, when the bright sun shines, sees various forms.' However, there [in that sūtra], the sun of prajñā illustrates that the mind within phenomena does not abide in phenomena, so that the internal mind possesses its own causes and conditions, which is not the same as taking the Buddha's power as the sun. Regarding the commentary's statement, 'Subsuming conditions under cause,' cause refers to the power of vigor. The mention of 'as in the "Manifestation Chapter"' refers to the Buddha's light rescuing hell-beings who were then reborn in the heavens, whereupon they thought: 'This is the supernatural power of the Tathāgata.' The Buddha then told them: 'This is not the supernatural power of the Tathāgata. If a single sentient being has not planted good roots in the presence of the Tathāgata and yet could attain the slightest bit of the Tathāgata's wisdom, this is impossible.'
