Regarding the commentary's statement that "the Benxing jing relates weaving grass into a parasol," and so forth: This is spoken of in the eighth fascicle of the Xianyu jing. In the past, there was a king named Vajra. When his queen was pregnant, a great parasol of the seven precious substances constantly covered her head. When the prince was born, his body was of purple-golden color and complete with the primary and secondary marks; the parasol remained above him, so he was named King Gaishe (Parasol-deed). The seven precious substances arrived of themselves, and he ruled over the four continents—this was indeed the Buddha's person. The Buddha said: "Ānanda! In the remote past, on Mount Ṛṣi, after a pratyekabuddha entered nirvāṇa, an elder erected a stūpa and covered it with a parasol. It is because of this that he obtained such retribution." This relates the event.
