Regarding the Commentary's statement, "Fourth, in terms of that which is abandoned," this refers to leaving behind the seeds and active manifestations of the two obstacles: first, the conceptually constructed, which arise from misleading teachers, misleading teachings, and improper reflection, and are permanently severed upon entering the first bhūmi; second, the innate, which exist from birth, and are severed ground by ground on the path of cultivation. These again are of two kinds: first, active manifestations; second, seeds. If they are the seeds and active manifestations of innate cognitive [obstacles], they are severed ground by ground; if they are the active manifestations of afflictions, they are also severed ground by ground; the seeds of innate afflictions are severed only directly upon the vajra-like uninterrupted path.
