Regarding the Commentary's statement: 'Second, the superiority of power,' this is also the virtue of wisdom, mostly referring to expedient wisdom. For example, the ten powers are the essence, and being able to subdue the adversaries of deviant wisdom is the function. However, the treatise-version speaks of the ten powers, fearlessnesses, and so forth, taking them collectively as the superiority of power. The ten powers are the essence; words such as 'fearlessnesses restraining external paths' incorporate supernatural powers, using them to conquer māras. Now, because the words 'immeasurable,' and so forth, belong below to the superiority of retinue, covered by the word 'immeasurable,' it merely takes the ten powers as the superiority of power, in order to follow the text. If one takes the words 'superior merits' and applies them to both places, there is no error in principle. Therefore the intended meaning taken here is: being able to subdue deviant wisdom is restraining externals. The word 'adversaries' also has two applications: first, deviant wisdom is itself the adversary; second, the word 'adversaries' refers to the heavenly māras.
