Regarding the Commentary's phrase: "Committing for one's whole life and so forth": for one's whole life is the superior grade; for a long time is intermediate; for a short time is inferior. And as for saying "and so forth": this is from the fifty-third fascicle of the Yogācārabhūmi, which explains the hundred practices, also called the hundred faults. When applied to the ten wholesome deeds, they are called the hundred practices; when applied to the ten unwholesome deeds, they are the hundred faults. "And so forth" includes: partial killing, killing for the most part, total killing, committing it oneself, instructing others, praising and commending it through immeasurable approaches, witnessing the killing of living beings and giving rise to profound delight and great joy. Going through the ten unwholesome deeds in this way constitutes the hundred faults.
