Regarding the commentary's phrase "As for the other sūtras and treatises": third, drawing an overall conclusion and determining [the meaning]. Above, fearing that students would wish to see differing explanations, they were detailed fully; in reality there are no differing paths. The words of the other treatises should now be set forth further. The third fascicle of the *Prakaraṇāryavācā* says: "Third, the Luminous Stage: this means that bodhisattvas abiding in this stage, because they have thoroughly cultivated and purified the second stage, surpass all stages of śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas, and realize the utterly pure aggregate of samādhi, upon which the great light of wisdom relies. Therefore this stage is named Luminous." Thus it does not differ from what preceded. Furthermore, regarding the earlier statement that the *Benevolent Kings* names it the Stage of Bright Wisdom: in its lower fascicle, explaining that the thirty sages and ten holy ones each cultivate a single contemplation gateway and are all named Dharma masters, the sūtra says: "The Great Sage (Mahāmuni) said: 'There are good sons who practice the thirteen contemplation gateways and serve as great Dharma kings.' From the forbearance of practice up to the vajra-summit, all are Dharma masters established and maintained [therein]." Now, regarding the third stage, that sūtra says: "Next, it is named the person of the path of bright wisdom, who always practices the contemplation of the three clarities within the forbearance of signlessness, knowing that the phenomena of the three times neither come nor go nor have any place of abiding, their mind continuously extinguished and quiescent, because they completely extinguish the defilement of delusion in the three realms, and because they realize the contemplation of all the merits of the three clarities." In explanation: Although the designations differ slightly, the doctrinal meaning is identical with this sūtra.
