Regarding the commentary's passage from "Next, in an empty..." onward: this is the third characteristic. The statement "namely, the mental application of detachment" is explained below where detachment is said to be "coexisting with the path of severance." In the present context of a secluded place, how is it named the path of severance? Therefore, the commentary above says, "seclusion applies to both phenomena and principle"; the seclusion of principle is precisely the severance of the path.
