Regarding the Commentary's 'Second, specifically clarifying that this ground is neither defiled nor pure': within this are two: first, clarifying transcendence; next, distinguishing the dual negation. In the former are two: 1. A general explanation. 2. From 'The preceding mind seeking Buddhahood' onward, showing that which is transcended. This has two types: first, distinguished within the path sought: greed, anger, and delusion are the cognitive hindrances wherein cognition itself is a hindrance; these exist in the previous six grounds, and the seventh ground completely transcends them. Second, from 'Moreover, in the first ground' onward, directly transcending the afflictive hindrances. The previous six grounds severally and distinctly transcend innate [afflictions]; here, they are all completely transcended, hence it says 'the multitudes of all defilements.' 'Multitude' means many. Thus the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi says: 'Able to permanently subdue them completely, like an arhat.'
