Regarding the commentary's statement 'Or divided into five as in the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā' and so forth: the fifty-eighth fascicle of the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says: 'First, the bodhi of generating the mind: within immeasurable births and deaths, generating the mind of anuttarasamyaksaṃbodhi. Therefore it is called bodhi; the fruit is spoken of within the cause. Second, the bodhi of subduing the mind: cutting off all afflictions, subduing one's mind, and practicing the pāramitās. Third, the bodhi of clarifying the mind: contemplating the root and branch, general and specific characteristics of the dharmas of all buddhas across the three times, and through differentiation attaining the true characteristic of all dharmas, which is the prajñāpāramitā. Fourth, the bodhi of emergence and arrival: within nirvāṇa, obtaining the power of upāya and so not clinging; if one extinguishes all afflictions, sees all buddhas, and attains anutpattikadharmakṣānti, one emerges from the three realms and arrives at sarvajñatā. Fifth, anuttarabodhi: sitting at the site of awakening, cutting off habitual tendencies, and attaining anuttarasamyaksaṃbodhi.'
