From the Commentary's "The four gates jointly reveal the meaning of the path" downward sets forth the reason for the sūtra's general designation. From "According to the meaning, they must be divided" downward sets forth the reason for the commentary's specific allocation. Among the four, the first two belong to the fifth ground, cultivating the path belongs to the sixth ground, and adorning the path belongs to the seventh ground; therefore it says, "According to the meaning, they must be divided." "The latter two belong to the subsequent" is likely a contemporaneous label added by the translator.
