83.22

(Fifty-ninth fascicle of the Sūtra) The commentary's 'Most sūtras and treatises use the first condition' means that this bodhisattva naturally manifests by transformation, etc., and the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa also agrees. The Tanxuan ji asks: 'According to this sūtra, upon passing away in Tuṣita, he immediately entered the womb, etc.; why does the Liang Mahāyānasaṃgraha state that the transformation body spent twenty years in the intermediate state (antarābhava)?' Tripiṭaka Master Paramārtha explains in his Commentary on the Suvarṇaprabhāsa: 'A distinct Hīnayāna school says: he waited for his parents to finish conceiving, and thus spent twenty years in the intermediate state.' Explanation: This is due to differences in capacity and perspective. Therefore, the statement of twenty years and so forth mostly reflects inferior Hīnayāna views.
