The sixty-second fascicle. Regarding the commentary's "expressing the roots of goodness conducive to merit," the ten faiths are the roots of goodness conducive to merit; the three ranks of the worthy are the roots of goodness conducive to liberation, because the roots of goodness cultivated conform to and lead toward liberation; the four stages of aids to application are named the roots of goodness conducive to penetration, because they conform to and lead toward true penetration—penetration is the path, whose meaning is as in the Ten Stages: here expressing the ten faiths, it is therefore conducive to merit. Regarding the commentary's "not expounding distinct teachings, hence not a distinct assembly," because the Kandingji split this assembly of practitioners of the various vehicles into two assemblies, calling them (3) the assembly gathering all nāgas and (4) the assembly gathering practitioners of the various vehicles, [the commentary] now refutes its erroneous interpretation.
