Eighth, explaining the locations from which the Tathāgata emits light to symbolize dharmas: Light is emitted from the wheels under the soles of the feet in the ten faiths, taking faith as the beginning. As at the tips of the toes in the ten abodes, it marks the beginning of entering the noble stages. From the insteps in the ten practices, it marks giving rise to practice based on the dharmakāya of the noble nature. In the ten dedications, light is emitted from the knees, which symbolizes the illumination of the Dharma, for the knees are that by which a person sits, rises, turns around, bends, and stretches at will. This clarifies that the Dharma-gate of this stage of dedication is the great wisdom that turns worldly existence into true liberation free of defilement; benefiting beings through compassion and vows, it abides in birth and death while constantly in nirvāṇa, and abides in nirvāṇa without obstruction from birth and death, possessing complete ease; this is symbolized by the location of the light's emission. Between the eyebrows in the ten grounds symbolizes the light of the fruit of the Middle Way.
