新華嚴經論 22.11

22.11

第一說修十信中十種勝解力故。其中有造惡業墮地獄中，為有信解之種，毘盧遮那菩薩處兜率天時放光名幢王光明，照地獄眾生離苦生天，天鼓說法得十地位，入離垢三昧，此是三生得果。三生者，一修十勝解是第一生、二作惡入地獄是第二生、三蒙光照燭生兜率天得十地果是第三生。此是第一功少獲益廣多門。

The first explains the power of cultivating the ten superior understandings within the ten faiths. Among them, there were those who committed evil karma and fell into hell; because they had the seeds of faith and understanding, when Bodhisattva Vairocana dwelt in the Tuṣita heaven, he emitted a light named the Radiance of the Banner King, illuminating the sentient beings in hell so that they were freed from suffering and born into heaven. Hearing the heavenly drum preach the Dharma, they attained the stage of the ten grounds and entered the undefiled samādhi. This is attaining the fruit in three lifetimes. As for 'three lifetimes': first, cultivating the ten superior understandings is the first lifetime; second, committing evil and entering hell is the second lifetime; third, being illuminated by the light, being born into Tuṣita heaven, and attaining the fruit of the ten grounds is the third lifetime. This is the first gate: gaining immense benefit from little effort.
