Fifth, regarding the explanation of the meaning following the text, there are two points as before. First, the outline of the sūtra's purport: in this section on the Ground of Emitting Light, it is outlined into seven sections. First, from 'At that time Vajragarbha Bodhisattva' down to 'attains the third ground,' there are five lines of the sūtra text, explaining the division of giving rise to ten kinds of minds in progressing from the second ground to cultivate toward the third ground. Second, from 'Sons of the Buddha' down to 'not merely by words can one become pure,' there are fifty-two and a half lines of the sūtra text, explaining the division of properly abiding on the third ground, contemplating all conditioned dharmas and giving rise to compassion toward all sentient beings, as well as esteeming the Dharma and honoring people, being able to enter a fire pit to endure suffering and rejoicing to hear the Dharma. Third, from 'Sons of the Buddha' down to 'yet without any attachment,' there are ten and a half lines of the sūtra text, explaining the division of abiding on the Ground of Emitting Light, cultivating the four dhyānas and eight concentrations of the form and formless realms, and acting without attachment in accord with the Dharma-nature. Fourth, from 'Sons of the Buddha' down to 'and it is likewise so,' there are two lines of the sūtra text, explaining the division of cultivating the four immeasurable minds of kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity at this stage. Fifth, from 'Sons of the Buddha' down to 'explaining that by the power of vows one is born therein,' there are thirty-three lines of the sūtra text, explaining the division of abiding on this ground and, through cultivating dhyāna concentration, acquiring supernormal powers and the purification of the six sense faculties. Sixth, from 'Sons of the Buddha' down to 'and spoke in verse,' there are thirty lines of the sūtra text, explaining the division of the extent of this bodhisattva seeing buddhas and receiving office. Seventh, 'and spoke in verse' is the division of stating verses.
