Seventh, knowing the superior characteristics of the soft, intermediate, and sharp faculties: "soft" means inferior faculties, "intermediate" means intermediate faculties, and "sharp" means superior faculties. As for such differentiated and non-differentiated characteristics of the past and future being superior, intermediate, and inferior: it means knowing the differences in the practices of faculties in the three times, completely knowing their similarities and differences. As for the characteristic of defilements arising together and not separating: it means the defilements produced by cultivation and the defilements born together are inseparable in characteristics, all of which are completely known. Vehicle and non-vehicle, determinate and indeterminate characteristics are as explained before. As for the characteristic of turning and destroying according to the net of faculties being light: according to the faculties, the net of teachings is established; according to the lightness or heaviness of defilements, the characteristics of turning and destroying can all be known. As for the characteristic of being sovereign and impossible to destroy: this refers to the grades of faculties being supreme and without falling back or wavering. As for the characteristic of following far and co-arising yet being distinct: just as all sentient beings from the beginningless past co-arise without departing from the one nature, yet according to conceptual discrimination, the differences in faculties and natures are distinct, all of which are completely known; up to the eighty-four thousand, they are known as they truly are, entirely without error.
