3.39

第二時說《般若》破有明空教者，既說小乘實有，令成軌範制其身語意，得住善法，則說生空等觀，方說法空教，破彼繫著，漸向法身。

Regarding the teaching of the second period, which expounds the Prajñāpāramitā to refute existence and clarify emptiness: having already taught Hīnayāna real existence to establish rules that restrain body, speech, and mind so that they could abide in wholesome dharmas, he then taught contemplations such as the emptiness of the person, and only then taught the doctrine of the emptiness of phenomena to break their attachments and gradually guide them toward the dharmakāya.
