Twenty-third, with 'I only know this radiance of the samādhi of the prajñāpāramitā,' he attributes virtue to those ahead to cause Sudhana to ascend and advance. Sudhana observes the bhikṣu Sāgaradhvaja through the ten dharmas above; furthermore, that he stands and ponders, observing for one day and one night, clarifies the dāna-pāramitā. Seven days and seven nights clarifies the seven branches of morality. Half a month clarifies the kṣānti-pāramitā; because patience benefits only oneself and does not benefit others, half a month symbolizes it. One month clarifies that vīrya benefits both oneself and others; hence one month symbolizes it. Six months represents the sixth abode. Furthermore, passing six days represents the sixth pāramitā, because the bhikṣu Sāgaradhvaja corresponds to the sixth Abode of the Upright Mind among the ten abodes, practicing the sun of wisdom of the prajñāpāramitā; hence six months represents the sixth Abode of the Upright Mind, and six days represents the sun of wisdom of the sixth pāramitā. This is the sixth Abode of the Upright Mind among the ten abodes, where the prajñāpāramitā is primary and the other nine are companions. In terms of wisdom, all stages generally cure afflictions; in terms of stages, the sixth pāramitā specifically cures the obstruction of lack of freedom in worldly and supramundane stillness and function, attaining the gate of sovereign supernormal powers of stillness and function. Because the supramundane compassionate mind is still predominant while the compassion that enters the secular world to abide constantly in the world is still inferior, it is symbolized by the bhikṣu Sāgaradhvaja: although he has compassion, he has only attained untainted compassion of pure practice, and cannot yet act identically with sentient beings in all matters of sentient beings without any discord. In order to gather all sentient beings through skillful means, the practice of the secular laywoman Āśā (Xiushe) Upāsikā in the next stage follows, clarifying dwelling in the true without realizing it as ultimate, knowing the true while practicing in the secular.
