In the second [section], the gate of praising virtues and advancing upward, from "All bodhisattva-mahāsattvas" downward to "took his leave and departed" comprises twenty-one and a half lines of the sūtra text. In terms of meaning, this is divided into roughly five gates: first, praising virtues and advancing upward; second, showing the region and country of the kalyāṇamitra; third, showing the dwelling place of the kalyāṇamitra located on a river islet; fourth, bringing forward the name of the kalyāṇamitra as Aniketasūri (Master of Self-Mastery); fifth, bowing in reverent homage, taking leave, and departing. From "As all bodhisattvas..." downward is the praising of virtues and advancing upward. Therein, the meaning of the south is as explained initially. The country named Renown is designated in reference to the master of the teaching, because the master of the teaching possesses renown. Dwelling on a river islet signifies that the precepts are like a river's current, which must inevitably enter the ocean of wisdom. Being a boy (kumāra) clarifies that the precepts are pure and unstained, hence he is called a boy. Being named Aniketasūri (Master of Self-Mastery) clarifies that having already entered the mundane world from the fruit of wisdom of the Tathāgata's dharmakāya to benefit living beings, his emerging from the world and entering worldly entanglements to lead sentient beings are all sovereign and free, and the name is established on this basis.
