Second, within the door of advancing by deferring virtue, from "As all the bodhisattva-mahāsattvas" down to "taking his leave and departing," there are fifteen and a half lines of the sūtra text, which are divided roughly into five doors: 1. Advancing by deferring virtue, which is from "As all the bodhisattvas" downward. 2. Indicating the spiritual friend's direction and place: it says "the south," as explained previously. 3. Indicating the city where the spiritual friend resides: the city is named Lion Palace (Siṃhaprāsāda); this establishes the name with reference to the transforming master. "Lion" has the meaning of fearlessness, clarifying that within this fifth practice, the practice of freedom from confusion and distraction, dhyāna-concentration is taken as the palace. 4. There is an elder named Jewel Topknot of Dharma (Dharmaratnacūḍa): this symbolizes that the dhyāna practice cultivated by this elder is the dhyāna of unhindered mastery of the essence and function of the dharmadhātu, which completely gathers the practices of the ten pāramitās, with the eightfold noble path entirely contained within it. As described below, the residence where the elder dwells is a ten-story pavilion with eight gates; this clarifies that the essence of concentration universally encompasses all practices. The name Dharmaratnacūḍa symbolizes that it gathers and crowns all stages, reaching the summit of Dharma. 5. Paying homage, taking leave, and departing.
